Over 500 athletes will gather Monday, May 2 through Friday, May 6 at the Newton County Special Olympics games at Sharp Stadium field. The week opens with a parade line-up at 9:30 a.m. at Sharp Learning Center, with opening ceremonies to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the stadium.
Closing ceremonies are scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m.
In between, track and field competitions for all ages, all ability groups will be held, beginning at 10:30 a.m. daily. The Newton County Special Olympics program accommodates competitors at all ability levels by assigning them to competition divisions, based on both age and actual performance. Throughout the year, there training and competitions are held in 18 different sports and activities, with the biggest event, the Spring Games, offering the community a first-hand opportunity to see the special gifts and talents these athletes possess.
