Porterdale residents are gearing up to clean rubbish from the Yellow River on Saturday.

The annual Rivers Alive event brings residents out to clean up the local waterways for a healthier, more beautiful community.

Attendees will gather at 8 a.m. Saturday at B.C. Crowell Park. They will be divided into groups and tasked with cleaning up different stretches of river.

Lunch will be served at noon at the Georgia Wildlife Federation, 11600 Hazelbrand Road. Educational activities will be offered after lunch.

Cleanup participants should wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Free T-shirts, cleaning supplies and breakfast will be provided while supplies last.

Groups are encouraged to register in advance. See the Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful website at www.kcnb.biz.
