The presence of more than a dozen landlords at Thursday night's city council work session prompted the council members to decide to tweak or completely do-away with a a proposed ordinance that would require them to register empty properties.

The ordinance was proposed to help enforce housing codes and to make sure empty buildings did not fall into disrepair and become eyesores or safety hazards. The ordinance would require inspecions, and a fee would be imposed on the landlords to pay for the inspection.

The landlords at the meeting stated that they kept their properties in good repair and felt it was an unnecessary burden on them to have to pay for the inspections.

The ordinance will be further discussed at another meeting.
In other Porterdale news, the city Farmer's Market was open for the first time on Saturday morning.

The market features fresh products all provided by local farmers. Items available on Saturday included radishes, strawberries, fresh eggs and beeswax candles.
