Porterdale has a full slate of council races in 2011, and residents will have a chance to hear candidates address the issues at a forum from 7-9 p.m., Oct. 25 at the Porterdale Mill Lofts.
The forum will begin with each candidate giving a 5-minute speech to introduce themselves and their main issues or goals for Porterdale.
The audience will then be able to ask questions of a specific candidate. The candidate will have one minute to answer, and the opposing candidate for that seat will also be given equal time to answer the same question if applicable.
Forum organizer Michael Patterson said residents can also submit questions to him at mapatterson85@gmail.com. Appropriate questions may be able to be asked anonymously.
The question and answer session is scheduled to last 20 minutes, but
"A lot can be said in the 5-minute speeches, but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty issues, people want to know specifics," Patterson said, mentioning issues like the Porterdale gym and the current K-9 officer discussion.
The remainder of the time will be devoted to a meet and greet period where attendees can interact with the candidates. Refreshments will also be served at this time.
Patterson said it could be extended if it goes well.
