After already winning $1,000 from the Reader's Digest "We Hear You America" contest, Porterdale is now in the running to win even more funding for the city.

The contest, which ranks cities by popular vote, is giving economic stimuli to the top ranking towns. If Porterdale places in the top 10 of this round of voting, it could win $10,000 to $40,000.

Reader's Digest Media President Dan Lagani said in a release that "with nearly half of every municipality in the U.S. participating, clearly America is responding to our campaign. In the spirit of the Reader's Digest mission to simplify and enhance the lives of Americans, we've now increased our financial and promotional support from $5 million to $7.5 million to help even more towns during these difficult economic times. We still hear you America!"

Reader's Digest has pledged $7.5 million to help towns across America.

Voting continues through May 16. To vote, see http://wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com/.

The city has not determined where the initial $1,000 will be used. The city council discussed spending the funds on a playground at the February city council meeting, but no action was taken.
