A new attraction will be cropping up in Newton County on Saturday - the Porterdale farmer's market.
The market will be completely supplied by local farmers for residents who like to know exactly where their food comes from.
Market Manager Helen Weitkamp said that Saturday's market would be a "pre-season market" to spread interest and awareness about the new market before the main summer crops come in. The official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the new market will be held April 16.
This weekend's sale will feature spring vegetables, such as radishes, turnips and leafy greens, and Newton High School FFA will be on site selling flowers and vegetable transplants. Mitcham Farm will also be on site selling fresh strawberries.
The Porterdale Farmers' Market will be held on Saturdays until the end of October at the Depot in Porterdale. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. There will also be special events held on holidays at the market.
The market was housed in Porterdale to be near the community garden, which is located off Washington Street, beside City Hall.
