Two ordinances were approved and a Porterdale resident recognized for his action in the recent shooting at the Magnet Bottle Store in Conyers at the city council meeting, Monday Night.

Todd Scott, owner of The Social House Restaurant in Porterdale, was recognized by a proclamation of the city for his bravery during the tragedy at the Conyers Magnet Bottle Store at the end of May.

Scott, a customer of the store, returned fire when Jeffrey Pitts started shooting people in the store. Two people, 44-year-old Mun Hyuk Cha and 39-year-old Otonicar Jimquez Aikens, were killed before Scott chased the shooter off.
"There were other people there who probably would have been killed," said Porterdale Mayor Arline Chapman. "He thought quickly and saved lives.

"We want him to know how much we appreciate his bravery," she said. "This is a thank you from the community."
Scott, who owns the Social House Restaurant on Main Street, Porterdale, was not present to receive the award, which will be given to him later.

The council also approved two ordinances, one cleaning up language about and specifying instances of indecency, the other making the city's parks tobacco free.

The council also approved adjustments to the revenues and expenditures for the 2013-2014 budget, bringing it in to line with the state law requiring a balanced budget.
