PORTERDALE, Ga. — A 7-year-old child was seriously injured when he was hit by a truck.

Payton Mosher, of Porterdale, was in critical condition Wednesday night at an Atlanta hospital.

Payton was struck at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday by a truck backing from a driveway into Birch Street.

The Georgia State Patrol said 39-year-old David Clemens, of Monroe, was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram in reverse on Birch Street toward Laurel Street while Payton was running east from a driveway into the street.

Troopers said Clemens did not see Payton run behind his truck when contact was made. The left rear tire of the truck struck the child. The truck then continued to travel south and ran over the boy.

Payton was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Troopers said Clemens had just picked up his daughter from her mother’s house on Birch Street.

Porterdale police Chief Jason Cripps called the case an “unfortunate accident.”
