Dennis Carpenter has been named as one of the two finalists for the position of superintendent in Jackson, Miss.

According to the Jackson Public Schools website, Carpenter, along with Cedrick Gray, who is currently a superintendent in Tennessee, were announced as the finalists Tuesday.

Carpenter currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent for Operations at the Newton County School System.

When asked about being named a finalist in an email, Carpenter said, "I decline in terms of a comment at this time."
