The Video Broadcasting program at the Newton College and Career Academy will host a film festival May 2 that showcases films produced by students at the academy.

The student filmmakers’ theme is “Bringing a Book/Story to Life.” Some films are based on original stories, and others on books that had not previously been interpreted on screen.

On the night of the festival, special guests, including TV and film professionals and actors, will choose a Best Short Film (People’s Choice), Best Short Film (Industry Choice), Best Commercial, Best Music Video, Best Actor in a Short Film, and Best Actress in a Short Film.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a red carpet for the top four finalists. The awards ceremony is from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The public is invited. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students.
