Ann Williams has a passion for cooking that’s evident when you visit her business, Ann’s Devine Eatery at 11230 Georgia Highway 36.

She opened the business two weeks ago, but the New Jersey native first began cooking for others by delivering lunch to factory workers in Minnesota. As her home-cooked meals gained a following, Williams saw a chance to open her business. So, she made the decision to move South to pursue her dreams, settling in Newton County two months ago.

"I love it here," Williams said. "I’ve met a lot of people and they’ve been giving me their opinion. I love the hospitality. It’s just the heat; I was up there freezing in Minnesota."

The eatery is owned and operated by Williams, her two step-daughters, Jamillah Coleman and Fatira Bryant, and her sister, Cecilia Guy. It offers an assortment of meals at a variety of price points. Williams does not believe in limitations in regards to food; her restaurant prepares Italian and Southern-styled soul food, but meals can be made to order.

"I can make anything you want," Williams said. "Everything I prepare is from scratch. I really believe there’s just nothing better than eating a home-cooked meal."

The restaurant features a number of house specials, including homemade barbecue sauce originated from Williams’ mother, Paella; Williams’ own take on the Valencian rice dish that’s a free-style combination of meat, seafood, vegetables and sometimes beans; and a house sandwich loaded with pastrami, coleslaw and a slice of turkey on rye. Williams feels these specials, along with any requested dishes, would be ideal to cater at business luncheons or other events.

Williams hopes her warm, home-cooked style of meals will lead to franchises around the world. As her business grows in the next year or two, Williams also wants to be able to hold Thanksgiving and Christmas events to feed the homeless and unfortunate.

"I enjoy cooking and seeing people eat my food," Williams said. "It’s a thrill to know they enjoy my cooking. I believe I’m not just feeding their stomachs, but their soul as well."
