Porterdale residents will now be able to tan and get their hair done in downtown thanks to a new salon called Stylin' at the Mill.

The salon, which opened Sept. 8, is owned by Porterdale council member Linda Finger, who said she felt there was a need for the salon in the downtown area.

"When I first had this idea (to open the salon), there were not any other type businesses in the downtown area," she said. "I feel it is something that's needed in the city."

Finger also said she believes the salon will be an asset to downtown Porterdale by bringing new people to the area.

"Other business will also benefit because of the exposure from my guests," she said. "Hopefully they will eat in our restaurants or go for a ride on the river from the Yak Club. I firmly believe we can work together and build the downtown to a thriving district again.
