Offering members the opportunity to work out 24/7, a new fitness center has opened its doors in Covington.
Snap Fitness, located in The Exchange shopping plaza on U.S. Highway 278, has been open for two weeks now and already registered 70 new members said Debbie Hawkins, who owns and operates the franchise gym with her husband, Gary.
"We're extremely pleased with the pace that we're on," Debbie said.
The Snap Fitness Covington location is one of 2,000 gym franchises across the country. Snap Fitness features a gym open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The gym also allows its members to join without signing a contract. Payment is made month by month.
"We wanted to definitely bring to the community a breath of fresh air," Debbie said. "We're right in your neighborhood. We're convenient. We're fast."
All of the machines at Snap Fitness are made by Cybex. There are five treadmills, two bikes and six ski machines, which give you a workout similar to climbing a mountain. There are also many strength training machines.
"The equipment is definitely up-to-date and top of the line," Gary said.
Debbie said the ski machines have become especially popular with female clients who appreciate the full-body workout they receive while working on them.
"Every piece of equipment is user friendly," Debbie said.
The cost of joining for a month for a single person is $34.95. A couple can join together for $59.95 a month and a family of four can join for $79.95.
"We have no contracts. It's month to month," Debbie said.
Members can also freeze their membership if they are going to be out of town for a month or more.
Personal trainers are available for private sessions with members. The price of a private session will vary ($50-$70 an hour) depending on the member's fitness needs.
Members also get the benefit of a free onsite tanning booth which they can operate themselves. Members are limited to one tanning session per gym visit.
Decorated in red, black and gray, the spacious gym features a vending machine with healthy drinks and snacks, cubby holes for belongings and a row of TVs mounted on the walls.
During the night hours when the gym is not staffed, members enter with their keycards. The gym is monitored by surveillance cameras.
