Home furnishings and décor giant Pier 1 Imports will be locating to the Conyers Crossroads Shopping Center sometime this summer.

“We are pleased to share that Pier 1 Imports recently signed a lease agreement to open a new store in Conyers, with plans to open in summer 2013.

The new store will be located in the Conyers Crossroads shopping center. Plans are subject to change.

“More information will be available in the coming months, as we get closer to the store opening date,” spokeswoman Chrissy Madison said in an email.

According to Rockdale County planning and zoning director Marvin Flanigan, Pier 1 recently applied for a permit to start construction at 1486 Dogwood Drive, which is located in the east end of the shopping center near Belk’s.

Pier 1 has been in business since 1962 and has more than 1,000 locations, the closest of which is located in Snellville.

• JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store will be moving to a new home at Conyers Plaza, which also houses Home Depot and Walmart, on May 17. JoAnn is currently located south of I-20 in the Salem Gate Shopping Center, which is rumored to be slated for renovations.

• The Subway currently located on West Avenue is moving across the street to the former Mrs. Winner’s building, which has been vacant since 2007.

In the midst of being remodeled, the building is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in 30-60 days.

Subway district manager Larry Lightfoot said the move was based upon acquiring a free standing building, a common trend for the sandwich chain in recent years.
