A few more fast-food restaurants are coming to Newton County, including two near the Walmart at Salem and Brown Bridge roads.
Chick-fil-A and Wendy’s are adding locations near the Walmart, while McDonald’s is opening a location on Ga. Highway 11.
Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A first had site plans approved last year for a location on Brown Bridge Road, directly adjacent to CVS and across from Walmart, and the company met with the county to renew those plans about two weeks ago, according to county Landscape Architect Debbie Bell.
Bell said the company didn’t offer a timetable, but she said development and construction usually follow closely after plan approval. The company must get a land disturbance permit next to actually begin developing the property.
The company that previously owned Chick-fil-A’s parcel and owns the surrounding parcels, Salem Bridge LLC, recently built a detention pond in the area and also built an access road, between CVS and Goodyear, which will serve all of the parcels in-between, Bell said. Chick-fil-A’s 1.58-acre parcel, at 12290 Brown Bridge Road, was purchased for $815,000 in November 2012, according to the Newton County Tax Assessor’s website.
Bell said the company’s plans meet the requirements of the recently-passed Salem Overlay, a more intense set of zoning regulations that promotes high-quality development in the Salem Road area. The only thing Chick-fil-A had to add to meet the overlay was a bike rack, Bell said.
Wendy’s
Wendy’s is the first business to plan to locate on an out-parcel on the Salem Road Walmart property. The county is still reviewing the plans, Bell said, which call for a 3,750-square-foot building with 50 parking spaces. The parcel Wendy’s chose is 1.447 acres; the Newton County Tax Assessor’s website does not yet list any sale information or an address.
Bell said the site plans call for the new Wendy’s to be accessed via the Walmart property’s internal road; there will be no access on Salem Road, which will help to reduce traffic congestion.
McDonald’s
A proposed McDonald’s on Ga. Highway 11 is also under site-plan review by the county.
The McDonald’s will be located next to the BP gas station and Blimpie on Ga. 11 right by Interstate 20’s exit 98.
