Newton County Fire Service received a $1,200 fire prevention grant Friday from FM Global, a property insurer for some of the world’s largest businesses.
NCF Deputy Chief Tim Smith said the money will be used to purchase a new digital camera for fire investigation purposes.
FM Global has contributed millions of dollars to fire services and related agencies around the world over the past three decades.
"At FM Global, we believe the majority of property damage is preventable — not inevitable — and we are pleased to make funding available to organizations, like the Newton County Fire Service, that share the same philosophy," said Michel Spaziani, manager of FM Global’s Fire Prevention Grant Program, in a press release. "After all, it’s much better to prevent a disaster than to recover from one."
The competitive grant program awards gives quarterly to fire departments and similar agencies that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the greatest impact on preventing, preparing for and controlling fire in the community.
