20 distinguished years: Ben Hendricks, of Crudup and Hendricks, was honored Thursday for his 20 years of diligent service on the Porter Fund board as the representative of the Newton County Bar Association. During this time, he has helped to award funds to numerous educational, cultural and charitable institutions which benefit the citizens and overall community of Newton County. The Porter Fund was established by Item XV of the Will of James H. Porter. SunTrust Bank, Middle Georgia, is the trustee. Under the terms of the will, three-fourths of the net income of the trust fund is applied to worthy charitable, educational and public institutions in Bibb County and the remaining fourth of the net income of the trust fund is applied to similar institutions in Newton County. The terms of the will establish a committee in both Newton County and Bibb County to determine which institutions will receive funds for each county.
