Correction: The original article incorrectly stated the starting time of the job fair. The job fair will open at 9 a.m. to the general public.
The Georgia Department of Labor, the Newton County Chamber of Commerce and the Covington Employer Committee will sponsor a career expo Thursday, Oct. 4.
The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Georgia Piedmont Technical College's Newton Center, located at 8100 Bob Williams Parkway in Covington.
Leading up to the expo, the GDOL's Covington Career Center will conduct workshops to aid job seekers in their search for employment and to help them increase their chances of getting a job at the expo.
The workshops will be held Tuesday, Oct. 2, also at the technical college from 8 a.m. to noon. They will include dressing for success, developing interviewing skills and preparing resumes. Job seekers who complete the workshops will be among the first participants admitted to the expo. To register for the workshops, job seekers are encouraged to contact Ray Beck or James Flowers at (770) 784-4070 or (770) 784-4064.
The Oct. 4 expo will feature a number of employers, educational institutions and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers. The employers will be hiring or discussing current and future employment opportunities, while other organizations will provide education and other resources.
Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately to improve their opportunities for employment.
Those expected to participate in the expo include Apollo Staffing, Because We Care, DeVry University, ETCON Employment Solutions, Foldel Health Care Services, Future Staff, Manpower, Pawn Mart, Prologistix, Solo Cup, The Covington News, Waffle House, Wagner Service Solutions, and the Walton County Sheriff's Office.
For more information about the expo, or employers wanting to register, contact the Covington Career Center at (770) 784-2455.
