The teachers at Woodlee’s Christian Academy set themselves apart by getting to know each child as an individual and helping those children grow academically, physically and spiritually.

"I love the one-on-one time. Sometimes I spend 50 minutes with just one or two children and I get to look through them as they see things; I get to see a different picture," teacher Ed Lawson said. "I love seeing the potential and the growth that takes place over the years. We’re building little people during the years that tremendous habits are formed."

Lawson is one of the Woodlee’s experienced teachers, some of whom have been teaching at a Woodlee’s facility for more than 20 years. The non-denomination academy is a small school teaching children from kindergarten through high school. The school’s 175 students get the benefit of small class sizes, while still being able to participate in a range or sports, music and other extracurricular activities.

Woodlee’s is constantly growing, having its first 12th grade class this year. The school was started in 1994, with only a kindergarten class, and every year since then one class has been added. This year is special for the academy as it celebrates its first graduating high school class.

Woodlee’s offers a variety of activities, including football, co-ed soccer, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, track, marching band, chorus and praise band. The school also has a full-time Spanish teacher who immerses young children in the language, when they are most able to learn.

Most importantly to the staff, the school has a strong focus on the Christian faith, with weekly chapels and daily Bible classes and prayer.

"We care for the whole child and that makes a big difference," Executive Director Terri Knight said. "I have a lot of parents who tell me they see a real difference in their child."

Even though the school year has started, Knight said it’s not too late to enroll, and she invites anyone to come and take an information tour of the school. For more information, including a full list of activities and prices, visit woodlees.com.
