The Women’s Diagnostic Center of Newton Medical Center is hosting the Breast Party Ever on Saturday, June 14 from 2 — 4 p.m. The community is invited to avoid the “Booby Trap” by attending a fun-filled afternoon of learning about breast cancer awareness and prevention from breast patient navigator Wendy Hankins, RN, CBPN-IC.
At the event, attendees will learn the proper way to perform a self breast exam, the importance of regular clinical breast exams, as well as when and why you should begin having annual mammograms. In addition to educational sessions, there will be snacks, gift bags and all attendees will be registered for door prizes. Women’s Diagnostic Center staff members will be available to schedule mammogram appointments.
Hankins, will lead the educational sessions along with other Women’s Diagnostic Center staff members. In the new Breast Patient Navigation program, a specially trained nurse navigator guides patients through the cancer care system. Hankins assists patients in working through the many barriers and fears they may face during cancer care. Through the navigation program, patients with suspicious findings receive all the information and assistance they need to help them obtain follow up care, timely diagnosis and timely treatment when necessary.
The Breast Party Ever will be held in the Women’s Diagnostic Center of Newton Medical Center’s Physicians’ Pavilion at 4181 Hospital Drive, Suite 301 in Covington. To pre-register for the event or to learn more about the Breast Patient Navigation program, please contact Wendy at 770-385-7826 or by email at whankins@newtonmedical.com.
