The Newton County Board of Education will announce its top three finalists for the superintendent position at its board meeting tonight.
Board of Education members met in executive session Tuesday, April 2, Wednesday, April 3, and Thursday, April 4, at 3:45 p.m. during spring break to review a list of 34 applicants for the superintendent position.
Candidates selected by the board were also interviewed during this time, according to Newton County School System public relations director Sherri Davis-Viniard.
Current NCSS Superintendent Gary Mathews announced late last year his plan to retire June 30, at the end of the school system's fiscal year.
Davis-Viniard said more information will be released once a vote is taken by the BOE at its meeting.
