Authorities are investigating a double homicide on Tempie Lane.

A medical alert call came in to dispatch from inside the home around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. When deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office and EMS personnel arrived, they could reportedly see one person down inside the home. Once they forced their way inside, they found the second person.

A middle-aged black male and an older black female were pronounced dead at the scene, victims of obvious gunshot wounds, according to Newton County Lt. Keith Crum. The deaths are not being investigated as murder/suicide, but as homicides.
