AT&T made a generous donation to the Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America to help fund the massive renovations to the Bert Adams Scout Reservation in Covington. The donation was awarded to the Atlanta Area Council in 2007, the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. The $350,000 donation has directly funded the renovations to the dining hall. During a luncheon late last week Steve Sitton, Regional President for the Southeast for AT&T Mobility and President Elect of the Atlanta Area Council, presented Don McChesney, the Atlanta Area Council Scout Executive, with the final installment of the grant.
Several years ago the Boy Scouts’ leaders met to discuss the needs of Bert Adams Reservation. "Thousands of Scouts from across the Atlanta Area Council visit Bert Adams each year. Many of the facilities at Bert Adams were in need of massive renovations to accommodate the growing needs of the Council," said Don McChesney. The donation from AT&T was one of the first major contributions to the $15 million capital campaign to finance the renovations that the Atlanta Area Council began.
The Bert Adams Reservation in Covington, which will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, is an important Camp for all of the Scouts in the local area. Last year 13,200 youth and 10,838 adults camped at Bert Adams. Since its inception, the Boy Scouts of America has advocated camping as the ideal vehicle for accomplishing its aims. At camp, instruction is offered in everything from first aid and nature to swimming and communications, providing youth with invaluable career, physical and interpersonal skills.
