The following students received degrees during the 168th commencement ceremonies at Emory University in Atlanta:

Kevin Childress of Covington, a master of public health from the Rollins School of Public Health; Elizabeth Dobbs of Covington, master of business administration from the Goizueta Business School; Riakeem Kelley, bachelor of arts; and Megan Timmins of Covington, bachelor of arts.

Also, Micah East of Social Circle, master of business administration; Jessica Bailey of Oxford, bachelor of arts; Steven Claude Dorsainvil White of Oxford, master of divinity from the Candler School of Theology; Michelle Eady of Oxford, a master of business administration; Charlie Price of Oxford, associate of arts from Oxford College of Emory University; and Joshua Parton of Jackson, bachelor of science in nursing, from the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

Academic honors

The following students were named to the dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, for spring quarter 2013:

Samelia Bankole of Covington; Amber Jones of Covington; Jamie Lane of Social Circle; Robert Myers of Oxford; and Maria Zurita of Covington.

Full-time undergraduate students who earn a GPA of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean’s list.

The following students were named to the honor list of Oxford College for the 2013 spring semester:

Robert Hight of Covington; Elizabeth Dobbs of Covington; Michelle Eady of Oxford; and Kevin Childress of Covington. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be named to the honor list.

The following students were named to Oxford’s merit list, denoting a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the previous semester:

Stephanie Herndon of Covington; Michela Manning of Covington; and Tyler Moon of Covington.

The following students were named to the dean’s list of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta for the 2013 spring semester:

Riakeem Kelley of Covington; Caleb Lanford of Covington; and Neal Patel of Covington.

Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.85 GPA or higher to be named to the dean’s list.

The following students were named to the president’s list at the University of North Georgia:

Ashlyn Brianne Hollingsworth of Covington; Courtney Layne Wynne of Oxford; Maryruth Margaret Davis of Covington; Matthew Scott Spohn of Covington; and Mindi Nicole Rugg of Covington.

Named to the spring 2013 merit list at the college was Zayd Nidal Ahmad of Newborn Named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at the University of North Georgia were: Hannah Elizabeth Maloney of Mansfield; Kaley Lynn Johnson of Covington, Morgan Ashley Thomas of Oxford, Shane Christopher Smith of Oxford, William Thomas Lazenby of Covington and Yeilha E. Vargas of Covington.

Ariel VanLeuven, the 2009 salutatorian at Eastside High School, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in cellular biology. She has been accepted to graduate school at UGA with a teaching assistantship and will begin studies for a Ph.D. in cellular biology in the fall.

Gill graduates

Joshua Gill graduated last month from the IE Business School (Madrid, Spain) and Brown University in Providence, R.I. He is the son of Kevin and Kathy Gill of Oxford and a 1997 graduate of Newton High School. Offered jointly by both schools, the IEBrown EMBA blends traditional business education with liberal arts to go beyond business and address a wide range of non-market issues that affect today’s business environment. Gill, who also graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree is 2001 and a master’s in 2004, lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife Tara, and their 3-year-old daughter Delia.
