Covington will host its Arbor Day celebration at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the Covington Woman’s Club, 1122 College St.
The program will open with an introduction by Scott Gaither and remarks by Covington Mayor Ronnie Johnston and Newton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Keith Ellis.
The program will then move to a tree dedication, in the honor of the late Jinx Faulkner, by Ly Summers, the tree preservation board chairwoman.
Faulkner, a dedicated preservationist of Newton County’s history and beauty, was a renowned member and past president of the Newton County Historical Society and a 41-year member of Sergeant Newton N.S.D.A.R.
The City of Covington Tree Steward Award will be presented to the McDonald’s at 10405 Industrial Blvd., and the Tree City USA Award to the City of Covington will be presented by Joan Scales of the Georgia Forestry Commission.
