An Artful Harvest brings in autumn

Southern Heartland Arts Inc. honored winners in its Artful Harvest Visual Art Exhibit at a Thursday reception. The exhibit, on display through Sept. 28, consists of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works by artists from Newton and the neighboring counties of Rockdale, Walton, Morgan, and Henry counties. Best in Show was awarded to a marble sculpture, “Endless Toil,” by Ray Salvatore of Stockbridge. The exhibit and awards presentation were sponsored by United Bank; the reception was hosted by members of The Heartland Woman’s Club.

The group art winners were:

  • Best in Show was a Marble Sculpture, “Endless Toil,” by Ray Salvatore of Stockbridge, Georgia. (not pictured)
  • First Place was Ray Smith, with a pastel piece, “Mountain Muse.”
  • Second Place was Elizabeth Gay, “Ties that Bind.”
  • Third Place was Rebecca Braswell with clay/pottery “Under the Sea”

Honorable mentions were:

  • Dana Kemp, “A Somber Misteross,”
  • Carol Veliotis, a sculpture in “Found Art,” entitled “Omar,”
  • Photographer Phyllis Burchett, “Essence of the Horse,”
  • Cindy Murphy for a mixed oil and mosaic portrait, “The Flower Girl, She’s an Angel.”
