A look at Kenneth Morgan for Post 1 West Ward

Kenneth Morgan is challenging Janet Goodman for the Post 1 West Ward seat on the Covington City Council.

Who is Kenneth Morgan: He started working for the city of Covington in the sanitation department in 1995 and retired Jan. 1, 2015 as a warehouse purchasing coordinator. Morgan attended Washington Street Elementary School and Newton Comprehensive High School, graduating in 1996. After high school he enrolled in the U.S. Army and was issued his honorable discharge in 1998.

Why does he want to run for office: “I wanted to serve my community and just make a difference,” Morgan said. When he started working for the city of Covington, his goal was to run for office. “I was waiting for my opportunity,” Morgan said. “When they presented the early package, I took it.”

What he plans on bringing to the council: While working with the city for almost 20 years, Morgan learned to observe and watch how things were done. “I realized how things where within the organization,” Morgan said. “That helped me further see how the structure works.

His plans for the city are to conduct budget reviews; define the roles of the mayor, council and city manager; propose implementation of term limit for elected officials; more accountability from the top down; and review enforcement of city ordinances.

His plans for the city and its citizens are to push for redevelopment of neighborhood housing; form a citizen review board of the police department; address issues concerning senior citizens, including downtown facility for living and shopping options; work to unify citizens and elected officials; and to not vote for any rate hike for utilities and address any other utility concerns.
