YBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Tybee Island is set to hold its first gay and lesbian festival next month.

WSAV-TV reports) that the Tybee Gay Days event is set for May 3-5. It will include parties, relaxing on the beach, a Sunday brunch and a beach cleanup.

Tybee Mayor Jason Buelterman says the event falls right before the high season and will help draw crowds to the island.

Stacey Jarell, who owns several businesses on the island, says the event is good for the local economy. Festival participants will be staying in local rental cottages and hotels and will be shopping and dining in island shops and restaurants.

The event is being organized by GaySavannah.com.
