HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a Wrens police officer was one of two people killed in a motorcycle accident in the east Georgia town of Hephzibah.
Wrens police said in a statement that 26-year-old Officer Kyterian Jones was driving the motorcycle when the wreck happened Sunday night. Authorities said Jones, who had joined the department in February, was off-duty at the time.
Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said Jones lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road and struck two pedestrians and a parked car in the 2900 block of Ulm Road.
The Augusta Chronicle reports that Jones and one of the pedestrians died at the scene. Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. Monica Belser said the other pedestrian was hospitalized.
The name of the pedestrian who died was not immediately released.
