ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say a tire from a truck that flew over a freeway median near Atlanta struck and killed the driver of a minivan heading the opposite direction.
DeKalb County police say the accident happened during the morning rush hour, around 8:30 a.m. Friday, on Interstate 85 south of Shallowford Road.
Police said a Dodge pickup truck was heading north on I-85 when one of its tires came off and flew over the median wall. The tire struck the driver of a minivan that was in a southbound lane.
WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/10FoxOt) that the 47-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
A 16-year-old passenger was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for evaluation.
