ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Police say an Athens man is recovering from an estimated 20 bites after being attacked by three pit bulls.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports the unidentified 26-year-old man was out for a run Sunday when the dogs attacked him, leaving wounds to his face, back, arms, legs and other parts of his body. The man was bleeding heavily when police arrived.
Witnesses told police the owner of the dogs would let them loose when people passed by, and authorities say none of the dogs had rabies tags.
Police say a similar attack involving the same dogs happened in 2012.
The dogs have been taken into custody by Athens-Clarke County Animal Control and the incident remains under investigation. It wasn't immediately clear if the owner of the dogs was arrested.
