ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — The Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame will induct two new members next month.
University of Georgia officials say Claud Adams, known as Georgia's father of 4-H and Louis Boyd, an animal scientist, will be inducted to the Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame Sept. 20 at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center.
University officials say the hall of fame was established in 1972 to recognize people making extraordinary contributions to agriculture and agribusiness in the state.
Officials say Adams organized the Boy's Corn Clubs in Newton County in 1904 — which are considered the predecessors of Georgia 4-H. In 1913, an offshoot of the boy's club — the Girl's Tomato Canning Club — was formed.
Officials say Boyd, who retired from UGA in 1992, helped strengthen the university's agricultural programs.
