GRAY, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a hunter was killed in Jones County over the weekend, though few details of the case were available early Monday.

Jones County sheriff's Sgt. Bobby Gay said the death happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday on Union Hill Church Road near the Putnam County line. Saturday was the first day of deer season for firearms.

Gay says authorities are still trying to determine what happened. The hunter's name wasn't released.

The Telegraph reports that the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the sheriff's department are investigating.
