Stocks closed slightly higher on Monday, putting the U.S. market close to a record high. The market climbed as investors assessed some good corporate earnings. There was also some encouraging news on the economy, a report that showed U.S. factory orders rose in March for the first time since July.

The Dow is up 247.33 points, or 1.4 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 55.59 points, or 2.7 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 280.87 points, or 5.9 percent.
