ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — An Athens man riding in a motorized wheelchair has died after being hit by a car.

Police say 73-year-old Roger Griffith was crossing a street in his electric wheelchair when a car being driven by a 66-year-old man hit him Monday night.

Athens-Clarke police tell the Athens Banner-Herald (http://bit.ly/151KlVb) the crash happened in a dimly lit area and Griffith's wheelchair was not equipped with lights or reflectors.

Officials say investigators have drawn blood from the victim and unidentified driver to determine whether drugs or alcohol may have factored into the crash.
