MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A Cobb County judge has sentenced an Austell man convicted of whipping a child's genitals to serve five years in prison.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports 31-year-old Andrew Charles Pride was sentenced Thursday. Pride was convicted of first degree child cruelty a day earlier.

Prosecutors say Pride whipped a 22-month-old boy multiple times in the groin on Aug. 17, 2012 because he wasn't cooperating with potty training efforts at a home in Austell. Prosecutors say the beating cause bleeding and welts.

Pride was also ordered to serve 15 months on probation upon his release and to have no unsupervised contact with minors.

Authorities didn't disclose the relationship between Pride and the child.
