ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say an 8-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being hit by a falling tree branch while he was on a school playground in Atlanta.

Police say the branch fell at Morris Brandon Elementary School in Buckhead. Authorities say the boy was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Stephen Alford says the boy was alert, conscious and breathing after being hit, but information on his medical condition was not immediately available.
