ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say they plan to evaluate the health and temperament of a family dog that attacked and killed a toddler in his home south of Atlanta.
Fulton County police Det. Melissa Parker says the 2-year-old boy was attacked Wednesday afternoon while his mother was in the bathroom. The child's name wasn't immediately released.
Parker said the dog had been a family pet for eight years. No charges had been filed as of early Thursday.
Authorities say the attack happened in an unincorporated area in south Fulton County near Union City — which is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.
Oliver Delk, administrator for Fulton County animal services, said the dog is believed to be a pit bull.
