In celebration of Arbor Day on Friday, Feb. 18, Oxford students planted 20 flowering dogwood trees along the Hearn Nature Trail to revitalize some of Oxford’s forests.

The trees were generously donated by Charlotte Johnson of Covington, with the help of Beryl Budd, the city of Oxford arborist.

Thanks to the Tree Advisory Committee under the stewardship of Michael Martin, lecturer in biology, Oxford College has once again been been awarded Tree Campus recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation.

To be recognized, a school must meet the following five criteria: establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for a campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and the sponsorship of student service learning projects.
