The 10th annual Twilights in Chimney Park is set for Dec. 4.

Chimney Park, “a park with heart”, will once again host Twilights, the annual festival of lights held the first Sunday in December. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the fun-filled event.

Twilights will be held this year on Sunday, Dec. 4, and the event is presented by the Friends of Newton Park (FONP).

Twilights takes place from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public with a donation of $7.50 per person (children under 2 are free). Refreshments are available, while supplies last, and will be provided by local community groups including the Covington Lions Club, Oxford Lions Club, the Kiwanis Club of Covington, Key Club, United Bank and the Rotary Club of Covington. Refreshments will include hot dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate, warm apple cider and s’mores.

The idea for Twilights originated with a “festival of lights,” and the event served to educate residents in the community and the surrounding areas about Chimney Park. The event has become an annual tradition and also serves as a fundraiser for the park. The event is planned and hosted by the FONP, who also manages the development of the park.

The event features thousands of holiday lights, arranged in festive features and vignettes all around the park. Holiday features include a field of lighted deer, holiday balls hanging in the many trees throughout the park, a path of giant Nutcrackers and a house for Santa. The foundation of the old Patterson house is beautifully decorated with traditional wreaths, garlands and more and serves as the backdrop for a stately, 20 foot Christmas tree. On the south end of park, lit in all white lights, is a historical center piece, one of the turrets from Atlanta’s historic Big Bethel A.M.E. Church.
