COVINGTON, Ga. — The Covington Garden Club, Redbud District, celebrated its 90th anniversary with a Christmas luncheon held at Burge Plantation Club in Mansfield on Dec. 4.

The Covington Garden Club was organized in November 1929 by its first president, Essie Jordan Callaway. Members held their first flower show in May 1930, during the Great Depression, which coincided with the first 10 years of the club.

To help support the war efforts during World War II, the club sponsored blood drives, victory gardens and a canning school. In other years, there have been horticultural workshops, tours of homes and gardens, sponsorship of other clubs, support of local community events, beautification projects and the creation of a memorial arboretum.
