Southern Heartland Arts Inc. will open its annual fall art show, Artful Harvest, on Sept. 4 at the gallery on the Covington square. The exhibits will be on display until Sept. 28.

Artists from throughout the state of Georgia will vie for awards in two categories: one dimensional work including oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media and collage, as well as three dimensional, which will include sculpture, turned wood, pottery, free-form clay, carvings, glass, gourds and jewelry. Interested artists may download the application on the gallery Web site, www.southernheartlandart.com.

Judging for the show will be provided by Larry Millard, professor of sculpture and graduate coordinator at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, University of Georgia, and by Cameron Hampton, owner of Hampton Fine Art Gallery in Greensboro and a graduate of the Pratt Institute, New York and the Atlanta College of Art. Both judges are accomplished award-winning artists in their own right with work in numerous exhibits, galleries and permanent collections.

Artful Harvest is sponsored by United Bank and the Grassroots Arts Program of Georgia Council for the Arts. The exhibit is open to the public and free.

Southern Heartland Gallery is located at 1132 Monticello Street, Covington. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Most art on exhibit will be available for purchase.
