The City of Porterdale’s downtown development will present the annual Yellow River Jam from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday in the downtown district of the historic mill town.

The annual festival will feature arts and crafts, food, activities for children and a plethora of musicians, but the main event will be the cleanup of the portion of the Yellow River that runs through Porterdale in the morning.

Volunteers are needed for the cleanup and anyone interested is asked to meet at Crowell Park at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers may be of any age, but children must be accompanied by an adult. According to downtown manager Sandy Fowler, Porterdale has decided to do their own cleanup this weekend in order to help with the Rivers Alive program that Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful will host on Oct. 18.

"This is the second year we have done this in Porterdale," Fowler said. "Everybody has their Christmas events and their Fourth of July events, but I want this to be Porterdale’s signature fall festival."

At 1 p.m. the music that has given the cleanup/fall festival its name will begin and performers will be staggered throughout the city. Bands are The Lemonsqueezers, Steel Horses, The Hays Band and Life Church Praise Team along with jazz musician Sean Shuffler. Performances will take place in the historic train depot, Ironworks Alley and Jimbo’s Grill at the Mill.

"We are striving to make Porterdale a destination location and fall is such a beautiful time of the year for the river and the area in general," Fowler said. "Between the beautiful weather and the area, it’s a wonderful combination."
