Welcome to Your Weekend: Richard Simmons is Wearing Bermudas

Baby, it's cold outside! How cold is it, you ask?

It's been so cold I had to open the fridge to heat my house. At breakfast, my corn flakes turned to frosted flakes. I turned on the television for my afternoon exercise routine and Richard Simmons was wearing Bermuda shorts. When I ventured outside to get the mail, I saw a bird using a squirrel as a scarf and a hipster wearing socks. Now that's some chilly weather for the South!

According to Punxsutawney Phil, the world famous groundhog, we are in for a few more weeks of winter down here in beautiful Georgia. Winter weather is great for building fires, snuggling up for pizza-and-a-movie night at home, and roasting marshmallows. But it also puts us at risk for staying cooped up inside and coming down with a case of the winter blues. So don't stare at the same four walls for too long and get down-dooby-do-down-down. Get out in the community this weekend! There are plenty of events that will have you thinking warm, southern spring thoughts in no time.

Beautiful flowers will perk you up at the opening weekend of Gibbs Gardens, featuring the Daffodil Festival! Over 20 million blossoms create one of the most amazing, colorful displays you will ever experience. In celebration of Black History Month, head over to the Nancy Guinn Library in Conyers for a free showing of "42: The Jackie Robinson Story". For Shakespeare lovers, Romeo and Juliet is playing at the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta. This epic love story, along with a comforting pub dinner, is sure to warm your heart. If you really can't wait for spring, head on over to the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival at Atlantic Station. Cold drinks and BBQ will definitely prime you for warmer picnic weather.
