Covington now home to one of the premier music venues in Georgia.
Music fans in the greater C’town area have a new music venue where they can catch local, regional, and even national acts. The upstairs portion of Irish Bred Pub at 1115 Church Street is better known as The Listening Room, is truly a superb music venue. Located on the east side of the beautiful Covington Square, patrons can catch tunes and enjoy food and drinks in an upscale, yet warm and comfortable, environment.
As soon as you walk in to this place, you say to yourself -- “yeah ... this is it, this is what I’ve been looking for. The old restaurant saying is, “the first taste is with the eyes.” The first taste at the Listening Room is very nice. You see the nice flooring, the beautiful trim work. You see the attention to detail they gave the bar, the stage, the art and the décor, even down to the chairs. It’s really cool, very impressive.
Speaking of the stage, the sound system for this place is top-notch. They’ve got at 32 -channel digital mixing board with a top of the line wireless mic system. The built-in JBC speakers are simply righteous. It’s as good of a set-up as I’ve ever seen.
The Bar is exceptional. 16 beers on tap. A great selection of top-shelf spirits including upwards of 10 Irish Whiskies and a strong Bourbon selection as well. You can also order food from Irish Bred’s impressive menu and you can step out on the beautiful balcony if you so desire.
The Listening Room has been open for almost a month now and have seen several great shows. The Higher Choir, a well-known regional band, kicked things off with a very memorable performance. Other acts like Eric Dodd, Hannah Thomas, and Mudcat have also played. Upcoming shows include The Bitteroots on Saturday, July 9 (see this edition of Marshall’s Music Minute), Drew Parker with special guest Sweet Harmony on Friday, July 15; Beau + Luci on Thursday, July 23; and Stonerider on Friday, July 29.
Over the next few months more entertainment will be added throughout the week. Upcoming events will include Jazz nights twice a month, The C-town Music Revue once a month, jam nights, open mic nights, singer-songwriter showcases,more local performers, and possibly even “live karaoke.”
And as I understand it, the upstairs is usually open even if there’s no music going on. So if you get a chance, swing by and check it out. It’s really nice. And the back pub area of the downstairs is real treat, too, According to owner Jack Phillips, “We want to bring Covington the best of all musical genres ... we envision this as the premier musical venue east of Atlanta and we’re going to give a great listening experience and we’ve got the talent around to do it. We’re just so excited.”
