After Hours
There’s another “Twisted Tuesday” this Tuesday, June 13, lined up at Marci Bennett’s esoteric and eclectic spot, Rustic Flair, on Floyd Street. This time around, we see there is a double-bill lined up to celebrate the store’s two year anniversary. The opening act for this one is The Olde Soles. Think “School of Rock” – a bunch of young kids that are just extremely talented. I saw them at an event last year, and I was thoroughly impressed. The headliner will be MOJO Ave. Old friends Jeremy Jackson and Ryan Betts are a part of this one, and folks - these guys are too legit! They are so good. And Ann’s Cousin, Amber Cowan Betts, will give you chills with her amazing voice. Starts at 7 p.m.
Also, as per usual, Emily Maike will be bringing you fun nights of Bingo on both Tuesday and Thursday at the groovy pizza joint on College Avenue - Amici Italian Cafe. Emily is one of the shift managers at Amici and was one of its superb bartenders for years. She started up Bingo nights in January and they’ve only grown in excitement and participation ever since. Lots of prizes and giveaways, it’s also a great way to advertise for local businesses. Leave word at Amici at 678-625-3000 if you’re interested in learning more.
This Saturday, at The Listening Room at Irish Bred Pub, will see the return of a group I’m privileged to be a part of - Sweet Harmony. Along with my lovely bride Ann Biggers McCart and our niece LeeAnne Biggers Blankenship, we are joined by DriveTime player Johnny Hamby on bass and the one and only Rebecca Bates. We’re really looking forward to this one as we haven’t played in the cool upstairs music hall since January. Join us!

As many of you may have noticed, several of the businesses on the Covington Square have some seriously fabulous window art and that is almost all thanks to one very talented woman, Ms. Tamara Haase. In addition to doing the mural out by Rooster’s in Mansfield, she’s also done window art for Bread and Butter and several others. I ran into her a couple of weeks ago as she was working on the windows at Amici, and just the other day she finished up her latest work over at Blair on the Square. Kayla’s Korner
Hey guys, I missed you in the print edition last week but I’m so glad that you read the Korner on CovNews.com. Well, third time’s a charm and all, so I guess maybe I’ll be doing this for a pretty good while. I sure hope so!
So I started the other day off with my morning walk over at Legion Field on Mill Street. My goodness, it’s amazing what they’ve done with that place, and I would just like to commend the City of Covington for that. Walking around brought back memories of being a kid and going to the fair with my friends. That place is so special, for so many reasons.
The event hall and the new pavilion are just wonderful, and that stage, though? It’s incredible that we have something like that right in the heart of Covington. As I’m told, this spot can be rented out for different functions and events. I understand that we might be seeing at least a few concerts out there this Summer and Fall. That sounds great! You can contact the City of Covington for more information.
After my walk and I went to one of my favorite spots in town, Irish Bred Pub. I love going upstairs so I can go out on the balcony. It’s a wonderful place for a drink or supper. Family-friendly and both the upstairs and downstairs have such a great vibe. The Ballycastle salad is my personal fave - it’s got steak, red peppers, mushrooms and onions, and I always get the Ranch dressing. It’s one of the best in town!
