Just a Thought: Callous about sin?

Do you have any features that look like your mom’s or dad’s? Maybe you have his eyes, her nose or some other characteristic. Do you have any of your heavenly Father’s features? "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God…" (Rev.4:8) But what about His children? We are told throughout scripture that we are to be as He is; (Lev. 11:44a; 19:2; 20:7,26; 1 Peter 1;15; 1 John 1:7).

Have we become so used to the presence of sin in this world that we have grown callous to it? Have we overlooked it for the sake of keeping the peace at any price? Have we forgotten the call of God on our lives, that to be one of His is to be as He is? Not perfect, but holy, purposely keeping ourselves from sin, and clearly calling sin sin?

As one writer stated, "Much of what passes for Christianity today does not reflect a healthy fear of God. His holiness and hatred of sin no longer influence the way many believers live. Instead of steering clear of sin, we now tolerate and flirt with it. …We casually allow it to coexist with godliness in our lives."

Maybe today would be a good day to take a look at ourselves in the mirror of God’s Word (James 1:23) and see if there are any clear resemblances of our Father’s features in us. We are not just called to belong to Him, we are called to become like Him.
