The Covington Women’s Club recently hosted missionaries from Costa Rica, who spoke about their work in the Central American country.

Bryan and Beth Tatum, accompanied by their friend Jherson Acevado, visited in February and collected a box of 150 reusable sanitary napkins and 1,000 empty medicine containers. Members of the Women’s Club included photos of themselves with the napkins they’d sewn as well as a photo of the group with the missionaries.

The club members had decided to sew the reusable napkins after hearing about the need for them from Oxford College at Emory University. Many young women in third world countries are unable to attend school during their menses because they cannot afford disposable feminine products.

Eventually, the Covington Women’s Club connected with the Costa Rican missionaries, who also requested empty medicine containers. The latter is needed because volunteer doctors get medication in bulk, but do not have containers to give to patients.
