On Friday, March 20, the Atlanta Braves Foundation collaborated with the Newton County Ministers’ Alliance to bring the Home Plate Project, presented by Chick-fil-A, to Covington/Newton County. The Home Plate Project is an initiative in which “the Atlanta Braves and Chick-fil-A team up with community organizations and agencies to continue to care for Braves Country while fighting food insecurity.”

Held at Legion Field, the Home Plate Project provided over 300 boxes of frozen foods and proteins and bags of fresh vegetables, furnished by Urban Recipe and Concrete Jungle, respectively, to attendees. Chick-fil-A handed out sandwiches and chips as people waited in their vehicles.

The morning started with a multitude of volunteers and Atlanta Braves Foundation staff packing bags with veggies and stickering boxes before the handout commenced.

“We are grateful to Rev. Willie Davis & the Newton County Ministers’ Alliance; the Newton County Historical Committee on Black Heritage Preservation; and the countless additional volunteers who worked together with the Foundation to provide this opportunity to members of our community,” the City of Covington wrote in a Facebook post. “We’d also like to thank our Covington (Ga.) Police Department officers for assisting with traffic.  Finally, we extend our gratitude to the Atlanta Braves Foundation for choosing to bless Covington and Newton County with this morning’s food distribution.”
