PORTERDALE, Ga. - Scoring 5 stars on Facebook and TripAdvisor, The new Porterdale History Tour is a hit with locals and guests from Florida, California and local counties such as Butts, Rockdale and Fulton.
“The mission of the Porterdale History Tour is to preserve the architectural and cultural history of Porterdale and to be a factor in the economic development of the village. Tour Manager Shant’e Ragin is the communications and cultural studies major who created the tour alongside her husband Kevin as an economic development project for the village.
With such positive feedback from the community the tour has also expanded with a night-time ghost tour and a partnership with Main Street Trolleys.
The trolley tour, The Newton County Historic Trolley Tour, will open on at 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 11. The tour will depart from Trolley headquarters at 3236 Highway 278, in Covington, for a two-city and “Cotton Mill” Village tour through Covington, Oxford with the “Grand Finale” in Porterdale.
Guests of this opening tour will receive a complementary lunch from the Porterdale café, Maddlulu. The Trolley Tour is a “Hop on Hop off” tour where guests will have the opportunity to go inside select locations. Porterdale History will offer special discount to Newton County officials and personnel.
